Monitoring Desk,24-May;Prime Minister Narendra Modi will install a historic golden sceptre called Sengol near the Lok Sabha Speaker’s seat while dedicating the newly constructed Parliament building to the nation on Sunday. This spectre was used on 14th August 1947 by the first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru when the transfer of power took place from the British to Indians. Sengol is a Tamil word which means full of wealth and this spectre symbolises virtual and ethical rule. Sengol measuring five feet is a masterpiece of Indian art with rich workmanship from top to bottom. It has been brought from a museum in Allahabad.

Briefing media in New Delhi on Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the history of the sacred Sengol and said there is a tradition associated behind this with ages. He added that Sengol had played an important role in country’s history and it became a symbol of the transfer of power.

Mr Shah said this is an exceptional moment to connect to the country’s cultural heritage, history, tradition and civilization with new India. The Minister said the new Parliament Building is an example of the Prime Minister’s farsightedness. He informed that on the day of the inauguration, Mr. Modi will also honour around 60 thousand workers who built the new Parliament building in record time.

Replying to a media query, Mr. Shah said the government has invited all political parties for the inauguration and they are allowed to act as per their wisdom. During the event, he also launched the website for the historical relic Sengol which has in-depth information related to it. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur and Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy were also present.
