Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) has proved to be a boon for the students of J&K which supports the youth in pursuing their higher education outside the Union Territory. It facilitates the access of quality education to students so as to equip them with knowledge, skills, experience and training for higher academic level/profession.
This was stated by the former minister Priya Sethi in a statement issued here today.
The former minister said that the PM Special Scholarship Scheme has been announced for the students of J&K who wish to pursue undergraduate-level programs in General and Engineering stream in the Institutes approved by the UGC. She said that aim of the scheme is to facilitate students of the state for higher education. She said various facilitation centres have been established by the government for benefit of the students.
“5000 students would be given these special scholarships and we will ensure that eligible students are facilitated at all levels so that our students are encouraged to pursue higher studies,” the former minister said.
“Students were able to explore new lifestyles and new situations. The scheme will help students in improving their self-knowledge, attitude and behaviour, confidence level, developing taste for different food, learning different languages and culture, among others,” Sethi said.
“Students from Jammu and Kashmir, who had already avail this special scholarship scheme by the Centre in pursuing their higher education across India, have said living outside their state has changed their knowledge and attitude towards people from other parts of the country,” She said while quoting a report of a national daily.
Priya emphasized creating massive awareness of this initiative taken by the government for providing a platform to the students of J&K. She appealed to the authorities concerned to impart proper awareness regarding PMSSS especially in far areas to reach out to the underprivileged sections of the society. She maintained that the prime objective of PMSSS is to empower the youth of the state to adopt a better outlook on their educational and career prospects. She also advised students and parents not to get trapped by middlemen or agents.
The former minister mentioned that All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has started registration for Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) for 10+2 students of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh from July this year. “The scheme will provide academic fee, maintenance allowance to students who after passing class 12, secure admission in a government colleges and other select institutions of repute having NBA, NAAC, NIRF ranking and other Centres of Excellences outside the Union Territories of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. There are total 5,000 scholarships out of which 2,070 are for pursuing a general degree, 2,830 are for pursuing a professional degree, and 100 are for pursuing a medical degree,” she said.
“As part of the scheme, students who enroll in a general degree will get Rs. 30,000 every year, those pursuing a professional degree will get Rs. 1.25 lakh every year, and those pursuing a medical degree will get Rs. 3 lakh every year. All selected students will also receive Rs. 1 lakh as maintenance charge. Maintenance charge is to cover expenses such as hostel fee and mess fee,” she maintained.
“The registration process for the scholarship will conclude on July 31, 2020. Students can get registered at the nearest Facilitation Centre. Students can check detailed information on application process on the AICTE website,” the former minister said.
