RICH TRIBUTES PAID TO CAPT GURBACHAN SINGH SALARIA, PARAM VIR CHAKRA

Homage was paid to Capt Gurbachan Singh Salaria, Param Vir Chakra at Salaria Sthal in Pathankot led by Commander Pathankot Sub Area and family members of the Martyr. The fallen hero led a gallant action on this day in Katanga Province of Republic of Congo where he and his outnumbered troops charged 150 rebels with a khukhri assault killing 40 of them. He completed the task given to him but laid down his life in doing so. For his duty and courage, he was awarded the highest gallantry award of Param Vir Chakra. It is also the only Param Vir Chakra awarded for a United Nations Peacekeeping Mission.
