Srinagar May 29: Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference Senior Vice President and former minister, Abdul Gani Vakil, today expressed deep concern over the lack of basic facilities in Sopore town and urged the government to address the grievances of the residents who are always crying and protesting over the lack of basic facilities in their town. Shortage of drinking water, poor drainage facilities, and dilapidated roads in the town is a matter of grave concern and the present establishment of municipality is totally defunct, doing nothing for the development but only looting the state exchequer. “The residents have been victimized and ignored by successive governments Vakil said.
The lack of basic facilities is a fundamental issue that needs to be addressed by the concerned authorities. The recent protest demonstration held by the residents highlights their legitimate grievances and demands that the government must address”, Vakil added. He urged the LG administration and concerned authorities to take prompt action and address the genuine demands of the residents of Sopore town. “If there was a people’s government, the concerns of the people would have been heard, and their issues would have been addressed promptly.
The present LG admin must listen to the concerns of its citizens and ensure that basic facilities are provided to them and take necessary measures to improve their living conditions.
Vakil strongly demanded probe into the misappropriation of funds in Sopore municipality which has been misused and mostly spent on unproductive schemes which do not exist on the soil.
