SSYC (Smile Social Youth Club) strongly criticized the malfunctioning and unsocial attitude of Traffic police towards the general public
Jammu:22-09-20: Smile Social Youth Club of J&K organized an emergency meeting under the chairmanship of Mr. M.S. Qureshi, Advocate, – President SSYC at Jammu in which various burning issues including the misbehaviour and misuse of official position by the Traffic Police authorities at different checking points, nakas within Jammu City as well as outside.
Mr. Qureshi strongly criticized the malfunctioning and unsocial attitude of Traffic police personnel towards the general public. In several incidents, it has been found that the Traffic police itself are violating the norms of Motor Vehicle Act as well as J&K Police Manual by manhandling the violators whereas Traffic Police is not having any jurisdiction or authority to manhandle or give any kind of thrashing to the Violators. The Traffic personnel are required only to book the culprits under MVA for causing any kind of violation of Traffic Rules but these officials jump over their limits of jurisdiction, thereby committing heinous crimes against the general public.
These Traffic Police personnel are required to be imparted appropriate training for handling the violator in a peaceful manner so that no harm to the dignity of the general public is caused by these officials.
In the recent incidents, at Nagrota, the Traffic Police personnel hit the windowpane of the vehicle, thereby causing damage to the vehicle, injuring the persons including a female person.
In another incident at Kachi Chawni, the two Traffic Personnel entered into scuffle showing complete disrespect towards the Uniform. At Ramban, SHO P/S Ramban beat the drivers of the vehicles on the highway whereas the Police are also not authorized to apply even little bit of force while performing their duties, as per Police Manual.
Mr. Qureshi urged upon the Home Ministry of India, Hon’ble Lt. Governor, J&K UT to take serious notice of such misdeeds by these Traffic Police as well as Police personnel against the innocent general public, and requested to impart proper training for maintaining discipline in the belt force to fill the wedge between police and public relationships.
