In a Key note address of Dr.M.L.Dogra highlighted the story of Mata suriya Putri which originates in Kailash Kund glacier located in Jammu’s Bhaderwah area . It flows through Doda ,Dudu ,Sudhmahdev ,Udhampur ,Jammu Distt. and draining into Chenab river. It is a source of drinking water for more than 10 ,00,000 people in the city Jammu. Dogra also said the story mata Suriya Putri” popularly known as Tawi is a revered lineage from Sun as Ganga is known for its origin from Lord Vishnu in our Shastras (spiritual books). Ganga is the only river that is pure divine with its “Papmochini” attributes. However, Tawi is the symbol of the identity of the people living in Jammu. The physical origin of Tawi is from Kapilas (Seoj) also called Kailash Kund and this divine stream with gushing speed is embraced by Kirchi stream after traversing 25 Kms at Shallu where it is named as River Tawi. Its water is very cold with temperature at about 3 degrees Celsius. Various destinations come on its way prominent among them are Jakhed, Pattan Garh, Mantalai, Chajj, Sudh Mahadev, Binisung, Mandir Daushalla, Chenani Town, Samroli, Laddan Powerhouse, Udhampur, Jaganu, Roun, Krishanpur, Manwal, Jandrah, Athem, Baba Perh, Katal Batal, Nagrota, Jammu City, Nikki Tawi and finally Thub Village where it embraces Chenab River. As per legend, one day Vasuki Nag announced that any of his sons who would bring water to cure his illness shall be declared as his heir-apparent. Therefore all his sons tried to bring a water source from different directions to Jammu. Bhair devta, went to Kailash and brought Tawi to Jammu.Dogra also Emphasized the aims & objectives of the programme, Cleanliness with special emphasis on , as despite four years of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the state has not been able to make considerable progress in the waste management front. In Jammu, many households and shopkeepers were provided with two color-coded dustbins to encourage waste segregation, but not much progress has been made in both sensitizing people to segregate waste, or managing waste collection and disposal properly. The Dogra also said that such initiatives were important to instil in people a sense of cleanliness and how they can play important roles to keep their surroundings clean. Over 500 artists/members of dham students walked along the banks of the River Tawi, Har ki Puri and along with other participants, pledged to keep their surroundings clean, The students and officials pledged to maintain cleanliness of the Tawi River.
