The Ghazi Attack BO: Rana Daggubati film stays afloat, second only to Jolly LLB 2

New Delhi, Feb 20: The Ghazi Attack, which released on February 17 and stars Rana Daggubati, Kay Kay Menon and Atul Kulkarni, managed to hold its own despite Jolly LLB 2’s successful run in its second week.

The Friday and Saturday (all India figures) stood at Rs 9.50 crore while from the US, first-time writer director Sankalp Reddy’s film raked in Rs 2.04 crore (Thursday, Friday and Saturday).
Thanks to a bigger star in Akshay Kumar and word-of-mouth publicity, Jolly LLB 2 stayed ahead of the all the films that released this weekend including Irada, rom com Running Shaadi and bevy of Hollywood releases including The Lego Batman Movie, reports Forbes.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that given the excellent word-of-mouth publicity, The Ghazi Attack was expected to pick up on Sunday.
The Ghazi Attack benefited in a major way, thanks to the backing it got from producer Karan Johar and AA Films, with largely positive reviews and marketing doing the rest. The Hindi version picked up Rs 3.90 crore.

The film, which is based on the mysterious sinking of PNS Ghazi just ahead of the 1971 India-Pak war, was severely handicapped in not having a big Bollywood star to bolster its fate.

However, trade tracker Ramesh Bala said that the film did fairly well in South India (based on Friday and Saturday collections), coming second only to Suriya starrer Si3, which is going strong in its second week as well.
In the meanwhile, courtroom drama Jolly LLB 2 continued to run successfully even in its second week with its overall India collections standing a little over Rs 88 crore (as of Saturday) thanks to a 53% jump it saw on Saturday, tweeted Taran Adarsh.
While the Sunday figures are still not available, the film is expected to cross the Rs 100 crore mark by Monday. “On Sunday it was on course to overtake the 95.56 crore ($14.3 million) lifetime total of Akshay Kumar’s Baby and today will likely become Kumar’s seventh title to reach 100 crore ($15 million), equaling Shah Rukh Khan. The drama has racked up $1.4 million on 163 screens in the U.S. and $270,000 on 22 in Australia,” Forbes reported.
