JAMMU, MARCH 11: Union Consumer Affairs Secretary, Hem Pande called on Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Choudhary Zulfkar Ali here today.
The Secretary discussed various steps to be taken to strengthen the Legal Metrology Department (LMD) of FCS&CA to further empower consumers in the State.
The Secretary briefed Zulfkar Ali about various steps being taken by the union government to ensure best possible services are extended to all consumers in the State.
The Minister and Union Secretary also discussed various initiatives to make the department more consumer-friendly and to uphold and protect the welfare of consumers.
Highlighting the role and importance of technology in delivering services to the people, the Secretary said India is a technology driven country, where people are bracing all advents made in the sector enthusiastically.
The Minister was informed till 1998 only two percent of people in entire country had access to internet, while as today almost 90 percent of country’s population is using internet.
Acknowledging the importance of technology, the Minister said technology will drive “digital age”, and the cooperation being received from pubic will hasten the process.
Secretary, FCS&CA Shafiq Raina, Director, FCS&CA Jammu, G S Chib, Deputy Controller, Legal Metrology Department, Jammu, Manoj Prabhakar and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
