Sopore,29-Apr: Residents of Alsafa colony A in north Kashmir’s Sopore town are facing immense problems due to Waterlogging in the locality.
A delegation from the area told CNS that the road connecting the locality and its adjacent areas with main road is dotted with potholes.
“During rains, dilapidated roads turn into cesspool. We face problems to venture out of our homes due to Waterlogging. We have been moving from pillar to post to repair the road, but no action has been taken so far,” said locals.
Locals said Waterlogging on the dilapidated road is taking toll on health of most of the locals who are suffering from viral infection.
They said due to dilapidated road, accidents frequently occur in the area. “Many vehicles have suffered damages due to bad condition of the road,” they said.
Locals said the problem is compounded by defunct drainage system. “Most of the drains are blocked in our area. During rains, lanes get waterlogged confining us to home,” they rued.
“We are just few metres away from main road and we are being deprived of development. Be it during rains or dry weather, our area is always inundated. We have to put on long boots to go out for emergencies,” they said.
Abid , a college student said that every time it rains or snows water accumulates on the roads causing huge inconvenience to the people residing in the area. “I took alternative route which took me almost hour to reach to college,” he said.
Local residents said that the administration is well aware of the problems faced by them. “The administration should take immediate and necessary steps to resolve the issues confronting the inhabitants due to Waterlogging,” they said.
Sajad Ahmad, a local resident, told CNS that, “There is no proper drainage system in the area and every time after the rainfall, the areas are submerged in water.”
He said: “we have often raised these issues with the local administration but nothing changed.”
