Srinagar, Dec 14: A day after controversy over Rs four lakh ex-gratia to Hizbul commander Burhan wani’s brother hinting Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s support, in a statement issued at Pulwama today Mehbooba said, “we have to differentiate between a militant and his family, his brother and his parents”.
She further went on to reiterate that local militants should be brought back to mainstream rather than being killed in encounters.
Mehbooba while speaking at the passing out parade said that situation has to be made better in which use of pellet guns can be minimised. The event was organised at the Commandos Training Center (CTC) Lethpora Pulwama. She sought police cooperation for bringing peace in Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir CM also pointed out that excessive force was used on People during the past five months of unrest in Kashmir valley.
The office of Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama has issued a notice listing name of Khalid wani among those who are likely to receive ex-gratia relief from the govt. Khalid wani was killed in an incident of cross fire last year. The ex-gratia relief was cleared for 17 militancy-related cases.
The order has sought objections from anyone within a weeks time against it before it can be executed. So far it wasn’t clear whether Burhan’s family has accepted the said compensation from the govt.
A major unrest was triggered after killing of Burhan wani in an encounter by security forces in an encounter in south Kashmir’s Kokernag area on July 8 this year triggered unrest in the Valley which has left as many people dead, thousands have been injured and many left without vision due to pellet gun injuries.
Even now the valley is yet to come out of the unrest thought things seem to have calmed down considerably.
